Kenny Dalglish pours cold water on Andy Robertson to Celtic talk

Celtic and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has dismissed speculation linking Andy Robertson with a move from Anfield back to Paradise this summer, pointing out that Celtic already has a top quality left-back in Kieran Tierney…

King Kenny was asked for his thoughts on Scotland captain Andy Robertson making a move to Celtic in the summer, after speculation mounted earlier in the week when Robbo’s great friend Alex Oxlade Chamberlain teased the Celtic support by suggesting that he could be re-uniting with Robertson at Celtic in the not too distant future.

Oxlade-Chamberlain told the Celtic Podcast: “We’re very close with Robbo and his family, his mum and dad. We were next door neighbours for years and years.

“I knew all about Celtic and Glasgow from them for years. Robbo makes no secret of what he thinks about this club so when I was linked he was the first one to call me and said get yourself up there now.

“I’m obviously really close with Robbo and his missus and the kids and my missus is really close with them also. We get on really well with them. So having him as a reference point was perfect for me.

“He told me where I need to live, where I need to go, he’s told me everything. He’s a proper Glasgow boy.

“I just said to him ‘it’s a shame you’re not here with me.’ He might join me soon, he’s a bit younger than me, Robbo. I’d hope to see him here one day. I think he’d be amazing.”

However Kenny Dalglish doesn’t see a space for Celtic for the Scotland captain with Kieran Tierney already performing brilliantly after returning from Arsenal. Instead King Kenny hopes that come the summer Liverpool will offer Andy Robertson a new deal to remain at Anfield.

“If he had spoken to me about it, I wouldn’t have mentioned it anyway,” King Kenny said.“But Celtic, how many left-backs do Celtic need?

“Why would Celtic even mark somebody’s card that we’re going to go for Robbo? Where’s he going to play? Tierney’s rattled one in again last night. He’s prolific now – a goalscoring left-back.”

On Robertson, Dalglish added: “I don’t know what’s going to happen to him, but I do know that he can be proud of what he did at Liverpool. And he can be proud of what he’s done for Scotland. So, if he doesn’t sign for Liverpool, somebody’s going to benefit.

“And if they get him, they’ve got a good bonus there. Obviously, his future is dependent on what Liverpool say to him. If they want him, I’m sure he’ll sign. But I hope he signs for Liverpool.”
