The Bears have missed out on Tyler Biadasz after conflicting reports of a free agent visit emerged
The Chicago Bears were dealt a big surprise ahead of free agency when their starting center, Drew Dalman, surprisingly opted to retire from the NFL at just 27 years old. In the blink of an eye, an area that was a strength for the Bears has suddenly become a big need for the team this offseason.
Finding a replacement for Dalmen is not going to be an easy task, even with the team recently clearing up some cap space by releasing Tremaine Edmunds and trading DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills. However, it looks like Chicago has already missed out on one of its top targets, Tyler Biadasz, after he signed a new deal ahead of free agency.
Bears Miss Out on Tyler Biadasz After He Signs with the Chargers
The loss of Dalman hurts for a slew of reasons. Not only is he going to be tough to replace, but he just enjoyed the best season of his career with Chicago, as he earned the first Pro Bowl selection of his career. Without him, the anchor of the Bears’ talented offensive line is no longer leading the way.
Biadasz emerged as an immediate target for the Bears after he was surprisingly released by the Washington Commanders. Since Biadasz got released, he didn’t have to wait until the start of free agency to begin finding a new home, which led to reports indicating that he took a free agent visit with Chicago earlier this week.
However, those reports were revealed to be false, meaning the Bears simply weren’t as interested in Biadasz as initially expected. Sure enough, they watched the veteran center quickly find a new home on the open market, as he signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday morning.
“The Chargers make a splash before free agency, agreeing to terms with C Tyler Biadasz on a 3-year deal worth $30M, per The Insiders,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported in a post on X. “Biadasz was cut by the Commanders after being set to make $8.3M. Now he lands in LA with a raise in a deal done by Athletes First.”

Biadasz has been one of the most consistent centers in the NFL since he was drafted back in 2020, so even though he got released by the Commanders, he made sense as a cost-efficient option in free agency. Instead, it doesn’t look like Chicago showed much interest in him, despite what reports initially suggested.
There are other options available for the Bears, but with the offensive line market set to explode, the team may have missed out on their best shot at finding a reasonable replacement for Dalman. In order to ensure they don’t get left in the dust, Chicago’s front office is going to have to adapt quickly, or else it could have a big problem at the center position entering the new season.
