Ohio State is reaching back into the NFL for additional coaching help along the offensive line.
The Buckeyes have hired former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive assistant Mateo Kambui as an assistant offensive line coach, according to a report by [Lettermen Row](https://www.on3.com/teams/ohio-state-buckeyes/news/ohio-state-buckeyes-football-mateo-kambui-offensive-line-assistant-coach/). He'll work directly with offensive line coach Tyler Bowen to develop Ohio State's offensive linemen in 2026.
Kambui spent the past two seasons working with new Ohio State offensive coordinator Arthur Smith on the Steelers as an assistant offensive line coach. He spent the 2023 season as an offensive line assistant for the Atlanta Falcons after earning the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, another role in which he coached under Smith.
Kambui also spent two seasons with the Denver Broncos in 2021 and 2022. He played collegiately at Florida A&M, starting 22 games at center across two seasons. He served as a graduate assistant at Georgia Southern and running backs coach with Florida A&M at the start of his coaching career.
The hire fills the position left open by Marcus Johnson, who served as an assistant offensive line coach for Ohio State in 2025 before departing for Arkansas this offseason. Kambui joins Bowen and Charlie Dickey to form a braintrust along the front five. The Buckeyes are looking for a much stronger close to the season from their offensive line in 2026 after allowing 10 sacks in the two losses to Indiana and Miami that closed their 2025 season.
