All the FA Cup rules for Wolves vs Liverpool, including VAR, extra-time, second leg and substitutes...
No replays: Traditional replays have been completely scrapped from the first round proper onwards to ease fixture congestion. This means tonight’s match must be decided on the night at Molineux. There will be no replay fixture at Anfield if the scores are level after 90 minutes.
Extra-time and penalties: If the match ends in a draw after regulation time, the teams will play 30 minutes of extra-time (two halves of 15 minutes). If the sides still cannot be separated after 120 minutes of football, the winner will be determined by a standard penalty shootout.
VAR and offside tech: Unlike earlier rounds, Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be in use tonight, as the match is being held at a Premier League stadium. Semi-automated offside technology (SAOT) will also be used to assist officials with fast and accurate offside calls during the tie.
Substitution rules: Managers can name up to nine substitutes on the bench and are permitted to use five during the match within three windows (excluding half-time). If the game goes to extra-time, both teams are granted one additional substitution and an extra window to make that change.
Concussion subs: In addition to the standard five (or six) changes, permanent concussion substitutions are permitted if a player suffers a suspected head injury. If a team uses a concussion sub, the opposing team is also granted an additional substitution to ensure no competitive advantage is gained.
Goalkeeper time limit: A new rule trial for the 2025/26 season strictly limits goalkeepers to holding the ball for a maximum of eight seconds. If a keeper exceeds this limit, the referee will award a corner kick to the opposition rather than an indirect free-kick.
