Incoming Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet has given an update on his shoulder injury

Liverpool summer arrival Jeremy Jacquet has vowed to come back stronger as the French defender confirmed his shoulder surgery was a success.

The agreed a deal for the 20-year-old during the January transfer window with his exit from Stade Rennais to be completed in the summer. Jacquet was a coup for Liverpool as they won the race to sign the highly-rated centre-back, snatching him from Chelsea after their pursuit of the defender.

However, the excitement surrounding his big move to the quickly turned sour after suffering a serious shoulder injury against Lens. The severity of the issue meant that he was forced to go under the knife and effectively ending his chapter at Rennes.

He wrote in a post to Instagram: "As announced by the club, the operation went very well. A long phase of rehabilitation is about to begin, I will give it my all during this time to come back stronger!"

Jacquet's impending move to comes with Liverpool facing another evolution across their starting 11. Last summer, they moved to sign Giovanni Leoni from Parma but the Italian defender suffered a serious knee injury on his debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup, curtailing his debut season.

Speaking last month, Arne Slot said: "Very pleased because first of all he’s a very big talent, maybe even more than a talent – but we speak about talent because of his age of course.

"Second of all, because we weren’t the only ones interested in him. So another big compliment for the people working every single day, so hard, that we were able to sign such a big talent.

"Another example of the model we are using at this club. Young, very talented players, sometimes at the start of their careers, sometimes already a few years in. But always players that are young and can improve us and help us for the short but definitely also for the long term.

“We’ve signed a lot of them recently and I’ve said many times that the mid-to-long-term future, but even the short-term future, of this club is in a very, very good place."

The move for Leoni formed part of the ongoing plan to improve and replenish the heart of Liverpool's defence with Ibrahima Konate out of contract in the summer and captain Virgil van Dijk turning 35 in July.

Although the Italian stopper hasn't featured for the Reds at the end of September, he has been continuing his rehabilitation and according to the he has been leaving a lasting impression around the AXA Training Ground.

Jacquet will begin his rehabilitation to fully recover from the shoulder injury, and expects him to be back and available for Liverpool in pre-season, with his move to become official in July.
