Chelsea have a'little plan'up their sleeve to beat PSG in the Champions League - Owen Hargreaves

Owen Hargreaves believes Liam Rosenior holds a tactical trump card ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League showdown with PSG that they could use to their advantage.

Chelsea have just under a week to wait for the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.

It has been reported that Chelsea have already made £80 million from the Champions League this season, and that figure could reach as much as £101.7 million if they go all the way.

However, Chelsea have been given the more difficult side of the draw, so even if they advance, it will be either Galatasaray or Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

But for now, the focus is on Luis Enrique’s side, and Liam Rosenior may just have the edge due to his previous experience against Paris Saint-Germain.

Owen Hargreaves believes Liam Rosenior holds the key against PSG

In a little preview for TNT Sports ahead of next week’s Champions League ties, Owen Hargreaves gave his thoughts on how Rosenior can actually give Chelsea an added advantage.

“Liam knows, he’s played them three times last season, drew one, lost one, and won one. And that was with Strasbourg, so imagine he’s got much better players now.

“Cole Palmer, Estevao, Neto, and Joao Pedro, Andrey Santos, who I think is a terrific player, obviously Caicedo. And I think Liam will have a little plan.”

Hargreaves is right. Just think of what Rosenior can conjure up with a much better squad and the damage that Chelsea already inflicted on PSG in the summer.

Liam Rosenior’s results against Paris Saint-Germain

Liam Rosenior’s three encounters with PSG during his tenure at Strasbourg gave an insight into his tactical adaptability, resulting in a balanced record.

The first meeting in October 2024 was a high-scoring 4-2 defeat at the Parc des Princes, where Rosenior’s side earned plaudits for their attacking bravery despite the scoreline.

However, the standout result followed in May 2025. A historic 2-1 victory at the Stade de la Meinau that ended PSG’s 40-game unbeaten away run, thanks to goals from Mamadou Sarr and Félix Lemaréchal.

Finally, in October 2025, just months before his move to Chelsea, Rosenior secured a thrilling 3-3 draw in Paris. Strasbourg led 3-1 until late in the game, which perhaps isn’t a great look considering some of the collapses we’ve seen at Stamford Bridge.

Nonetheless, this proven track record of neutralising Luis Enrique’s side makes Rosenior a valuable asset.
