The 20-year-old suffered the injury during Rennes’ defeat to Lens. forcing him off in visible discomfort and sparking fears that his season – and potentially his start at Anfield – could be in serious jeopardy.
Subsequent scans confirmed that surgery would be required, with Rennes later announcing that the 20‑year‑old would go under the knife to repair damage in his left shoulder, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign in Ligue 1. It was shock setback for a player Liverpool had just beaten Chelsea to in a deal worth up to £60m.
Taking to Instagram, the soon-to-be Liverpool man has revealed that the operation has been completed successfully:
“As announced by the club, the operation went very well. A long phase of rehabilitation is about to begin, I will give it my all during this time to come back stronger!”
A Ligue 1 doctor has warned that Jeremy Jacquet’s shoulder surgery could require anywhere from four to six months before he is fully ready for heavy contact again, painting a potentially worrying picture of his recovery.
Despite that conservative estimate, Liverpool’s medical staff remain optimistic and still expect the incoming £60m defender to be available in time to take part in pre‑season under Arne Slot this summer.
There at least then seems like there is a clear pathway for the youngster to complete his rehab in France and work back towards full fitness before linking up with his new club.
For a fanbase eager to see their new defender in red, Jacquet’s upbeat message will be taken as a welcome sign that this bump in the road is just a delay, not a derailment, to what the club still hopes will be a long and successful Anfield career.
