Andrea Berta told to target“untouchable”Inter Milan striker by Mikel Arteta

Reports claim an Inter Milan forward caught Mikel Arteta’s attention in January. The striker impressed during a 27-minute cameo. Arteta was reportedly surprised by the display and asked sporting director Andrea Berta to explore a deal. Arsenal have since made formal enquiries about the young attacker’s availability.

How Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta target the Italian striker

The pursuit started when Mikel Arteta watched Pio Esposito during a UEFA Champions League match in January. The young striker came off the bench for Inter Milan and played 27 lively minutes. He troubled the London side’s defence with his energy and movement. At one point, the manager even turned to Gabriel Magalhaes for more control at the back. Even though Arsenal won 3–1, the 20-year-old forward clearly caught Arteta’s attention.

As per reports, an Italian outlet stated the post-match events. The manager wanted Andrea Berta to check the striker’s situation. Berta soon contacted Inter director Piero Ausilio to ask about the player’s price and availability.

However, the answer was quick and firm. Ausilio reportedly said there was no chance of a deal. He called Esposito a key part of Inter’s future. The club made it clear the striker is not for sale, no matter the offer. The enquiry ended almost as soon as it began.

Why Arsenal and Andrea Berta are going after the Italian forward

The manager sees the player as a modern target man who shows real strength. Esposito stands 1.91m tall and carries a huge physical presence. He is a solid centre-forward with strong aerial talent. In the stats, the youngster leads Inter with 1.5 shots on target per 90 minutes. He has scored seven goals and six assists this term.

He excels at hold-up play and linking attacks, traits that Arteta views as the “perfect” fit for the Premier League club’s growing system. The fact that he wins 85% of his aerial duels points out this impact.

Legend Gianluigi Buffon has also praised the forward’s superior growth mindset and professional courtesy. Arsenal already have Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus. However, the football club are still in search of an elite striker to lead them to a quadruple.

The interest in Esposito fits with Arsenal’s plan of finding top-class young talent with swift impact and long-term potential. This quest comes amid rumours over a likely exit for Gabriel Jesus at the end of the season.

Inter Milan remain firm on their young star

Inter Milan view the forward as untouchable and vital to their plans. As per sources, their CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, made it clear that the club takes pride in their academy products. They do not see them as a player-selling business.

He sent a clear message to any willing parties: “Inter do not want to sell him and we are not a club that makes player trading its main business. He’s a product that grew up in the youth academy, and we’re guarding him like a treasure.”

The striker remains under contract at the San Siro until 2030. However, the club have already laid out a new deal until 2031. This new contract would greatly increase his salary to reflect his growing value in the team.

As per reports, the Italian giants had already turned down an offer worth £43 million for the player last summer. However, current valuations suggest a move appears nearly impossible unless a bid reaches around €100 million.

The pursuit of the Italian talent

Arsenal have made their move, but Inter will not budge. The club has tied down Esposito until 2030 and values him at €100m. They value him as a homegrown star. A deal would demand more than their €116.60m record fee paid for Declan Rice. But even that may not be enough.
