We are days away from the new NFL season beginning with free agency, and we still don’t know the fate of future first-ballot Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
Is he retiring?
At the end of the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the grizzled veteran was seemingly leaning towards it being his last run. He had a good but not great first (and possibly only) season with Pittsburgh, making the postseason before getting blown out in the opening round by the Houston Texans.
But as we’re now a month removed from Super Bowl LX and the Seattle Seahawks’ victory, the pending retirement many thought would come hasn’t happened.
Rodgers, per usual, is shrugging off and chastising anyone publicly who wants to know his decision. He will make it on his own time, and when that happens, then everyone else will find out.
It’s how he operated last season when pundits believed he could retire, only for him to sign with the Steelers late in the offseason.
One of his former teammates who knows him well, retired guard T.J. Lang of the Green Bay Packers, doesn’t think it will be as drawn-out a saga as last year’s.
"I feel like we're gonna find out,” Lang said on the “Go Long TD” podcast with Tyler Dunne. “I mean, I feel like we're gonna find out in the next week. You can't wait until May anymore.”
While the Steelers seemed like a long shot to re-sign Rodgers, even if he decides to play one more year following their postseason implosion, the addition of Mike McCarthy from the Packers teams Rodgers and Lang played on has become a point of discussion.
"Mike and Aaron spending so much time together and then spending a good amount of time away from each other, maybe that makes you appreciate each other a little bit more,” Lang said.
When asked what he thinks Rodgers will do and whether he has one season left in him, his former teammate gave his prediction for what will happen next with his former QB.
“I think Aaron's gonna try one more year,” Lang said. “I would say that because I think he had a couple of really tough years in New York, obviously the first year with the Achilles, the second year. Just being in an overall dysfunctional organization, I think, wears on you."
