Just as Joel Embiid was getting back on the floor to help the Philadelphia 76ers get back on track, the veteran center is out of the mix with another injury.
The latest update from the 76ers is an unfortunate one, since Embiid will continue missing time moving forward.
According to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Noah Levick, Embiid is set to be re-evaluated in approximately one week. He has begun individual strength and conditioning at this early stage of his recovery from a right oblique strain.

All season long, the Sixers have paid close attention to Embiid’s knee.
Over the past two years, Embiid has undergone multiple surgeries in the same knee. Fortunately, he was able to start the 2025-2026 NBA season on time and remained relatively healthy throughout the first couple of weeks.
However, Embiid missed a stretch of games throughout November, causing some concern for the season.

Throughout December and January, Embiid saw his minutes restriction get lifted. He missed consecutive games on just one occasion. Just as everything was looking up, the star center started experiencing enough soreness in his knee to miss multiple games in a row.
Before the All-Star break, Embiid was out for two games. When the Sixers returned, he remained out of the mix for the first three games.
Embiid returned to the Sixers’ lineup on February 24. He checked in for 24 minutes against the Indiana Pacers. When he played in 31 minutes for the following game against the Miami Heat, that’s when Embiid suffered his current setback.
Despite the in-game setback for Embiid against Miami, the star center flashed dominance by producing 26 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists in the Sixers’ 124-117 win. Once again, the Sixers looked night and day with Embiid competing.
This season, the big man has put together an All-Star-caliber year when he’s available and off restriction.
With his minutes around 31 per game, Embiid has shot 49% from the field and 31% from deep, averaging 26.6 points per game. He is also producing 7.5 rebounds per game and 3.9 assists per game when he’s healthy.
For the past three games, Embiid has been off the floor. Based on the new timeline, Embiid is set to miss at least four more games for Philadelphia. They are 13-16 in his absence this year.
