Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has commented on some of the rumours that Andy Robertson could be on his way to Celtic in the summer.
Andy Robertson’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and the Scotland captain is edging towards free‑agent status for the first time since his rise from Hull City to Anfield royalty.
As a result, Celtic are increasingly being tipped as the club ready to offer him a Glasgow homecoming.
Celtic described as a leading destination given Robertson’s well‑known boyhood affection for the Hoops and his previous stint in their academy before being released as a teenager. His appearance in the stands at Celtic Park for a recent European night only added fuel to the fire that a full‑circle return could be on the cards once his Liverpool deal winds down.
Meanwhile, former Liverpool man Alex Oxlade‑Chamberlain has been more than happy to fan the flames. Speaking on the Celtic FC Podcast, Oxlade‑Chamberlain revealed how close he and Robertson remain, explaining that the left‑back was one of the first people to sell him on life in Glasgow and that he “would love” to see him follow the same path. The midfielder even teased that Robertson “might join him soon”.
However, Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has pourred water on the notion, suggesting that while he does not know whats in store for the future of Robertson – he feels Celtic won’t be the solution:
“If he had spoken to me about it, I wouldn’t have mentioned it anyway,” King Kenny said as quoted by the Celtic Star. “But Celtic, how many left-backs do Celtic need?,”
“Why would Celtic even mark somebody’s card that we’re going to go for Robbo? Where’s he going to play? Tierney’s rattled one in again last night. He’s prolific now – a goalscoring left-back.”
“I don’t know what’s going to happen to him, but I do know that he can be proud of what he did at Liverpool. And he can be proud of what he’s done for Scotland. So, if he doesn’t sign for Liverpool, somebody’s going to benefit.”
“And if they get him, they’ve got a good bonus there. Obviously, his future is dependent on what Liverpool say to him. If they want him, I’m sure he’ll sign. But I hope he signs for Liverpool.”
