Report: Friedkin send Everton officials to join race to sign "fantastic" U20 World Cup winner

The Friedkin Group have now dispatched Everton officials to join the race to sign an impressive forward, who won the U20 World Cup back in October.

Everton join race to sign U20 World Cup winner

The Toffees have quietly enjoyed an excellent season under David Moyes and could yet sneak into European contention with nine games left to play.

As things stand, after defeating Burnley in midweek, Everton are just five points behind rivals Liverpool with one more Merseyside derby left to come at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Up next, of course, Moyes will come up against a familiar face in Mikel Arteta as Everton travel to face Arsenal. The champions-elect will be looking to take a step closer to Premier League glory, but the Toffees have lofty ambitions of their own.

European football would be an instant boost for all involved at the club. On the pitch, it would hand the Hill Dickinson the stage that it deserves. Off the pitch, it would hand Friedkin the chance to welcome their best reinforcements yet.

To that end, several potential targets are already emerging - including Christoph Baumgartner. The RB Leipzig midfielder has enjoyed a sensational campaign in the Bundesliga, with 17 goal involvements to his name, and could yet be on his way to Merseyside.

Given that Jack Grealish is currently on course to return to Manchester City without a permanent move, Baumgartner would be the perfect replacement for his creative spark.

But he's not the only name on Everton's shortlist. According to Sports Boom, Friedkin have sent Everton officials to join the race for Othmane Maamma.

The Watford winger won the U20 World Cup with Morocco back in October and has done enough to earn the interest of both Everton and Brentford.

20-year-old Maamma is one to watch

Whilst he's far from the finished product, Maamma is part of a long line of talented Moroccans beginning to emerge. It's exactly why they won the U20 World Cup and exactly why Everton are now interested.

The Toffees are keen on signing a new striker.

Watford will be well aware of the talent that they've got on their hands too. Maamma has scored four goals and set up one other in the Championship this season, with his best days still to come.

The winger earned plenty of praise after winning the U20 World Cup, including from Jacek Kulig. The talent scout praised his "fantastic" tournament, which featured some defining goal involvements.

The 20-year-old is now a player that will make an instant impact if he joins Everton this summer, but he is one for the future. Securing his signature now would be a genius move by Friedkin, who would be investing in a future star.
