Other analysts have speculated that Tatum's restriction could be in the realm of 20-25 minutes, although it's unclear exactly how long the Celtics will keep Tatum's minutes restricted moving forward.
Tatum hasn't appeared in an NBA game since his Achilles rupture on May 12, 2025, which was Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. This makes Tatum's time away amount to 288 days, which ranks among the fastest recoveries from an Achilles tear in NBA history (Kobe Bryant returned after 240 days).
Tatum is re-joining a 41-21 Celtics squad that is currently No. 2 in the Eastern Conference standings. With 20 games remaining on the schedule, Boston is hoping Tatum will use the next six weeks to get into game shape entering the postseason.
