Green Bay Packers: Rashan Gary announces he will be playing elsewhere in 2026

One of the players that the Green Bay Packers were expected to part ways with this off-season was pass rusher Rashan Gary. A first round pick in 2019, Gary was the longest-tenured player on the Packers roster following the trade of Kenny Clark to the Dallas Cowboys in the Micah Parsons trade.

In 2025, Gary got off to a hot start with Parsons playing opposite of him. He recorded 7.5 sacks in the first seven games of the season and appeared poised to record the first double-digit sack season of his career.

However, he did not record a single sack in the final 10 games of the season, finishing with 7.5 sacks for the second year in a row.

Because of this, and his massive salary cap hit, many expected that he would be released by the Packers this off-season.

And it appears that Green Bay has officially told Gary that he will not return to the team this year. It has been reported by multiple insiders that the 2019 first round pick posted the following message on social media:

Gary has since deleted the post as the Packers have not officially released him. It may be, perhaps, that they are still trying to find a trade partner for him. However, with Gary announcing to the world that they do not plan on bringing him back, that may prove to be difficult.

By releasing or trading Gary, the Packers will save $11 million on their salary cap for the 2026 NFL season.

He ends his time with Green Bay with 46.5 career sacks, the 11th most in franchise history.
