The Washington Commanders are not far off from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the NFC.

Even though the team didn’t make the playoffs and ended the 2025 campaign with a 5-12 record, they are still close to being a championship caliber squad. However, there are some needs that the Commanders must address this offseason.

A big part of the team’s struggles last season were due to injuries. Jayden Daniels, the team’s rising star quarterback, only played in seven games. Heading into the offseason, Washington will need to focus on building around Daniels.

Keeping that in mind, the Commanders could use more help at the wide receiver position. To that end, a new $40 million prediction has been dropped that would see Washington land exactly the kind of playmaker it needs.

Commanders Linked to Stealing Dynamic Playmaker From NFC Contender

ESPN’s Dan Graziano revealed some of his NFL free agency predictions just days before the market opens. He believes that the Commanders will end up signing Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Rashid Shaheed.

Graziano also revealed that he thinks Shaheed will sign a three-year, $40 million deal with Washington.

“It sounds like Shaheed will have a market outside of Seattle, where he was a vital part of the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run as a receiver and a return man,” Graziano wrote. “His speed is enticing to a lot of teams, and those that swing and miss on Pierce could be very happy signing Shaheed at a lower cost. He had 687 receiving yards between the Seahawks and Saints, and including the playoffs, he scored three return TDs (two kickoffs, one punt).”

As mentioned by Graziano, Shaheed will be impactful as both a return man and a wide receiver. That could be of interest to the Commanders as well.

He brings elite speed to the field. Shaheed can also make plays in the open field.

What Would Rashid Shaheed Bring to the Commanders?

During the 2025 NFL season with the New Orleans Saints and Seahawks, Shaheed played in 18 games. He caught 59 passes for 687 yards and two touchdowns. In the return game, he returned 23 points for 339 yards and a score and also returned 15 kicks for 447 yards and a touchdown.

Adding that kind of playmaking ability would make Washington a much more serious contender.

Paying Shaheed $40 million across three season would be a reasonable contract. He wouldn’t break the bank, which would allow the Commanders to keep some money for improvements elsewhere on the roster.

Expect to hear plenty of rumors surrounding Washington as the NFL offseason gets underway. With the right moves, the Commanders could be right back in the mix as a contender in the NFC.
