On Friday afternoon, a post appeared on the Instagram account of Green Bay Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary announcing he and the team were parting ways.
The post quickly went viral, with everyone from fans to NFL insiders sharing the post, and it was believed because the expectation this offseason has been that the Packers would cut ties with the former first-round pick.
However, the post has since been deleted and it now appears that it may not have been real after all. Here's the latest.
Was Rashan Gary announcement real?
According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, Gary has not been informed by the team that he will be traded or released and, in fact, his Instagram was hacked.
"Per source, Gary has not been told he will be released or traded. In fact, his IG account was hacked, per the source," Demovsky reported.
An interesting turn of events here, no doubt.
If Gary was truly hacked as Demovsky reports, it was a pretty elaborate scheme considering the post looked like your run-of-the-mill NFL player farewell post.
You be the judge.

Of course, this doesn't mean the Packers aren't going to cut or trade Gary, but as of right now neither of those things have happened.
