Jeremy Jacquet breaks silence after‘horror’ injury as incoming Liverpool star provides surgery update

Arne Slot’s newest defensive reinforcement, Jeremy Jacquet has provided a major fitness update. Following a “horror” shoulder injury at Rennes

While Arne Slot’s men still have a significant chunk left to play of the 2025/26 season, their attentions will be shifting somewhat to the next campaign, already.

This season, in truth, has been a slight letdown after the immediate fireworks of Slot’s first campaign saw a Premier League title come to Anfield, with Liverpool sat outside the top four positions at the moment, having lost a worrying nine clashes in total.

Liverpool's most defeats in a Premier League campaign across the last 10 seasons:

There have even been slight murmurs that Slot could pay the ultimate price with his employment, as Liverpool crashed out to a dreadful 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, last time out in the unpredictable division.

Thankfully, next season seems to have an optimism attached to it, with considerable amounts of money already being splashed out on some new additions.

Indeed, Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet has cost a whopping £60m to tempt him to Anfield, with a hope that the 20-year-old can be a permanent piece of Liverpool’s defence for the foreseeable future, as a shake-up all over the pitch is on the menu.

Jeremy Jacquet Transfer: Financial Breakdown:

However, there has already been a snag in this deal, as Jacquet has had to undergo surgery after suffering from a dislocated shoulder playing for his current Ligue 1 employers.

Thankfully, though, a positive update has now been issued, surrounding his surgery, as Liverpool fans wait with bated breath on when their new Frenchman will be available for them in pre-season.

The update on Jacquet’s situation

As per the Frenchman Instagram account, Jacquet has now offered an insight into the situation unfolding.

He wrote on social media: “As announced by the club, the operation went very well.

A long phase of rehabilitation is about to begin. I will give it my all during this time to come back stronger.”

It was previously thought that Jacquet would be battling against time, potentially, to be fit for Liverpool’s pre-season games to come in the USA.

Now, however, with the operation a success, hopefully this speeds up the timeline of his eventual debut for the Merseyside giants.

After all, with four goals leaked across their last two league outings, it’s clear some fresh blood is needed at the back, heading into next season, with Jacquet possibly a mainstay defensively, if he can hit the ground running post-injury at Anfield.

The numbers in the table above speak for themselves as to his immense potential, with one of his former managers at U19 level, Laurent Viaud, heralding him as a natural “heir” to the great Virgil Van Dijk.
