The Atlanta Falcons are fresh off of announcing the release of Wide Receiver Darnell Mooney. With Mooney scheduled to be released at the start of the league year, the Falcons will start looking for his replacement.

The 28-year-old veteran receiver had an impressive stint with the Atlanta Falcons. Mooney recorded 1,435 yards and six touchdowns in 31 games over the past two seasons.

However, Mooney only had 443 yards and one touchdown during the 2025 season. In 2024, he hauled in 64 catches recording 992 yards and five touchdowns.

The Atlanta Falcons will enter free agency with a hole in the wide receiver position. With Mooney’s release, the Atlanta Falcons will have $18 million available in salary cap space. According to a Falcons Wire article, the team will try to use this cap to bring in a proven pass catcher.

Romeo Doubs Listed as Potential Replacement

The Atlanta Falcons will ideally want a number two option to go along with Drake London. Romeo Doubs last played for the Green Bay Packers in 2025. Doubs recorded 55 catches, 724 yards, and 6 touchdowns.

“The Falcons could use a quality No. 2 or No. 3 option to open up the rest of the offense in 2026.” Matt Urben wrote in a Falcons Wire article. “While Doubs never quite developed into that next star receiver for the Packers, he has consistently improved over the last four seasons.”

Doubs has caught 202 receptions over his career with more than 2000 receiving yards. He has scored 22 touchdowns in his career. Doubs played college football at the University of Nevada and was selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Romeo Doubs has established himself as a solid WR2 during his time in the league. Many thought he was ascending to a bigger role with Green Bay, and it never happened. Drake London and Romeo Doubs would potentially have success no matter who Atlanta has at quarterback.

Other Names the Atlanta Falcons Will Consider

One of the more popular names in free agency will be former Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill. Hill is coming off a gruesome leg injury in 2025. Hill, 31, appeared in just four games last season due to a torn ACL. The wideout has made eight Pro Bowls and five All-Pro teams since entering the league back in 2016.

New York Giants Wide Receiver Wan’Dale Robinson will be another name to look out for in free agency. Robinson is coming off a fantastic year with the New York Giants. He recorded 92 receptions for a career-high 1,014 receiving yards and four touchdowns. After the injury to Malik Nabers, Robinson proved he could be a valuable asset to any NFL team.

“Pairing the 5-foot-8 Robinson with the 6-foot-4 London would give the Falcons a dynamic duo at wide receiver capable of punishing opposing defenses in a variety of ways. Robinson could be a bit pricey, but he’s an option if the team creates cap space.” Urben wrote.

Many will wonder what the Atlanta Falcons’ next move will be now that free agency is around the corner. One thing we do know is the team desperately needs wide receiver help.
