Liam Rosenior has quietly solved Chelsea’s issues using Mauricio Pochettino trick

Confidence is back in the Chelsea supporters in their club and Liam Rosenior following their big win against Aston Villa, and return to the top five in the Premier League.

Rosenior knew he was going into the game on a run of three games without a win, and threatening to lose touch with Villa, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Chelsea have nine games left in the Premier League, and will need similar ends to the season, that they have enjoyed in the last two campaigns to qualify for the Champions League again.

Liam Rosenior’s change of system echoes Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea

The first time this happened was when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, and ironically their form turned as a result of a positive result at Villa Park.

Despite only drawing 2-2, they came from two goals down with a thrilling comeback performance, and benefitted from a change of system.

He used Marc Cucurella in an inverted role, changing the system that he had struggled with up to then in his only season at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior went to a back three system against Villa, pushing Malo Gusto on to support Cole Palmer in attack down the right.

The new manager should stick with this formation, clearly finding a way to get the best out of his star man again, following a starring role at Villa Park.

Chelsea’s perfect form after Pochettino’s tactical tweak

After Chelsea’s draw at Villa Park in 2024, they finished the Premier League season with a perfect record of five wins in as many games.

They beat Tottenham, Brighton and Nottingham Forest, three sides Rosenior will come up against before the end of the current campaign.

The Blues reached their goal at the time of qualifying for European football, and the current side will be hoping that they can achieve their own targets of reaching the Champions League again next season.

The pressure is on Rosenior to do the same, to which point he will keep his job at Stamford Bridge, which Pochettino was unable to do.
