2026 Chicago Bears free agency primer, live blog, updates and more

LAKE FOREST, Ill., — The calendar has flipped to the month of March and the next big event for the NFL is free agency. For the Chicago Bears, they are going into their second offseason under the combination of Ben Johnson and Ryan Poles. However, it's a little different this time around.

The Bears entered the offseason needing to free up some cap space. They did exactly that by trading DJ Moore, releasing Tremaine Edmunds, and also seeing Drew Dalman unexpectedly retire before free agency.

With some big needs to fill on the roster, Poles and his staff will have a tough task of fixing all of those needs. As of now on Friday, March 6th, the Bears have around $33 million in cap space after clearing $44 million.

Chicago has big needs at center, left tackle, edge rusher, linebacker, and safety. They will also look to add some depth elsewhere. As we get set for the start of the new league year, we are going to keep you updated with every rumor, report, signing, trade or whatever goes down with the Bears.

Important times and dates for free agency:

Monday, 12 p.m. ET: The legal tampering period begins and runs until 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday. "Clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with, the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents"

Wednesday, 4 p.m. ET: Players are allowed to sign deals with teams. The new league year officially begins.
