Dolphins expected to let ex-Jets first-round bust QB leave in free agency

This offseason, the Miami Dolphins will be making some big changes to the quarterback room. Tua Tagovailoa's departure hasn't happened yet, but it's almost a guarantee that he'll be on his way out soon.

Tagovailoa is not expected to stay, and while Quinn Ewers will be under contract, there's no guarantee that he will be the starter next year. Miami might add a veteran.

But, as ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques notes, the Dolphins are not expected to re-sign a former New York Jets first-round QB bust this offseason. Zach Wilson, after one year and 26 total snaps, is set to leave Miami this offseason.

Dolphins expected to let ex-Jets QB Zach Wilson leave in FA

"FA most likely on the move: Zach Wilson," Louis-Jacques writes. "The former No. 2 pick signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins last offseason but was leapfrogged by Ewers when Tagovailoa was benched with three games remaining in the season."

Wilson signed with the Dolphins on a one-year deal last offseason for the chance to be the backup to Tagovailoa.

He did make it on the field, for just 26 snaps. On those 26 snaps, Wilson made 11 pass attempts, completing six passes for 32 yards and three first downs.

Wilson was passed over for Ewers for the final few games of the season to get a good look at how the seventh-round rookie looked in the NFL.

There's plenty of film on Wilson already, as the 26-year-old quarterback didn't have the best production for the Jets from 2021 through 2023.

He went 12-21 with a 57% completion percentage, 6,293 yards passing, 23 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions with a rough 73.2 passer rating.

Wilson is slated to hit free agency, and the Dolphins, according to Louis-Jacques, are not expected to bring the Jets' second-overall QB bust back for another year.
