[Senate Bill 1501](https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2026R1/Measures/Overview/SB1501) passed with overwhelming support in the House after gaining Senate approval on Wednesday.

Supporters of the bill say the renovations are key to keeping the Trail Blazers in Portland.

The bill now head’s to Governor Tina Kotek’s desk for a signature, who is expected to sign the bill after previously expressing support for the renovations funding.

The Trail Blazers released a statement on Friday afternoon, celebrating House approval of the bill.

“This is a great day for our community,” said Dewayne Hankins, Portland Trail Blazers President of Business Operations. “Thank you to Speaker Fahey, Majority Leader Bowman, Representative Nosse, and all the members of the Oregon House who passed Senate Bill 1501. Thank you to Governor Kotek, who has championed Oregon’s Arena from the very start. And, thank you to every Oregonian who weighed in throughout the legislative process with stories about what Moda Center and the Blazers mean to them. Rip City truly does run deep. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to renovate Moda Center and catalyze economic growth in the heart of a vibrant Lower Albina neighborhood. Working with local leaders, we’re ready to get started on the next chapter for this franchise.”

Several Oregon lawmakers also issued statements addressing approval for SB 1501.

“For those of us who grew up watching this team — suffering through the 2000 Western Conference Finals, watching Brandon Roy hit buzzer beaters, celebrating the return of Damian Lillard — this is both personal and practical,” said House Majority Leader Bowman, D-Tigard. “The Blazers are our team. They create jobs. They make our state more vibrant. They are an asset that we should fight to keep.”

“I know business, I know about competition, and I know that we have to play to win–it’s vital to our continued growth as a state to support community hubs like the Moda Center that bring people together is a source of pride, excitement, and belonging,” said Rep. Daniel Nguyễn, D - Lake Oswego, chair of the House Committee on Economic Development, Small Business, and Trade. “It’s more than just a building–its economic and entertainment opportunities bring people together, have ripple effects across the state, region, and even the country, and have become part of our identity as Rip City.”

“Public investment in the Moda Center and Rose Quarter sports and entertainment district benefits historically displaced members of the Lower Albina community and reminds the country that Oregon leads with values while optimizing its unique strengths,” said Rep. Tawna Sanchez, co-chair of the Ways & Means committee. “This future-thinking investment is important not just for my district, but for the entire state of Oregon and our region’s ability to attract additional sports and entertainment opportunities.”
