Wolverhampton 1 - 3 Liverpool
Wolves: Hwang 90+1’ Reds: Robertson 51’, Salah 53’, Jones 74’
It’s Groundhog Day. Again.
The opening 15 minutes is playing out exactly like the early stages of the last match. Because why change things when it worked out so well? So yeah, Liverpool have the majority of the possession and have done precisely fuck all with it. The only half-dangerous situation was when Gakpo hit the post with a header from a corner, but it was offside, so it actually wasn’t even half-dangerous.
Joe Gomez decides to unleash the Kraken and has a go from about 25 yards out. Honestly, props to Joe, it’s the most entertaining thing any Liverpool player has done in three halves of football against Wolves.
The first half ends without Liverpool conceding a shot. Just like the last match. What could go wrong???
Wow. Liverpool opened the scoring! And it was Andy Robertson of all players who just decided to put his laces through it and lashes it into the far bottom corner from outside the box.
And then! A moment later! Robbo puts in a cross for Salah to poke home! What is this stunning display of football competency?!
And now Jones gets in on the action, hitting a beautiful low, curling effort with his weaker, left foot from just outside the area.
Mac Allister is on the receiving end of a bad challenge and limps off gingerly. Hopefully it’s not serious, but it certainly didn’t look good.
Wolves pull one back in stoppage time, but it won’t be enough.
It was a frustrating first half, but somehow comfortable in the end. Amazing what this whole “scoring goals” business can do for ya.
