Kaboly Names WR ‘You’d Have To Put’ At Top Of Steelers List

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to overhaul their wide receiver corps outside of WR DK Metcalf. They’ve got Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek opposite Metcalf. The Steelers know they need to do it, too. They met with several wide receivers at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Steelers could also look at veteran options in free agency or the trade market. Free agency is just around the corner, and there are some enticing options. One name that jumps out to quite a few people is Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs. That’s the name beat writer Mark Kaboly gravitates towards, despite not having enough familiarity with the new staff to get a great idea.

“It’s hard to say right now, but you’d have to put Doubs at the top of that list, in my opinion,” Kaboly said Friday on 93.7 The Fan’s The PM Team.

Now, Romeo Doubs never played for Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy in Green Bay. He did play with last year’s starting quarterback in Pittsburgh, Aaron Rodgers, though. Doubs left quite an impression on Rodgers in their short time together, evidently. Rodgers reportedly asked Packers on SI reporter Bill Huber if Doubs was available prior to the start of the 2025 season. So, if Rodgers does return in 2026 to Pittsburgh, no doubt he’d love to play with Doubs again.

However, Rodgers is not currently under contract with the Steelers. Yet Kaboly still puts Doubs at the top of the list of free agent wide receivers the Steelers should look at. Why?

Well, WR Romeo Doubs brings a veteran presence with a proven track record in the NFL while still being young. He turns 26 years old in April, so he could be a part of the Steelers’ wide receiver corps for a while if he plays well. He’s played well for the Packers, that’s for sure.

Doubs played 59 games with 50 starts for Green Bay. He caught 202 passes for 2,424 yards (12 yards per catch) and 21 touchdowns. He also played in four playoff games with 20 catches for 371 yards (18.7 yards per catch) and two touchdowns.

The Steelers don’t have any wide receivers outside of DK Metcalf with that kind of production currently. Romeo Doubs may not be one of the top 10 wide receivers in the league. However, defenses would respect him opposite Metcalf a lot more than if Roman Wilson lined up there. Doubs should help boost the Steelers’ offensive production from the wide receiver position, even if he’s not an “elite” receiver.

Our very own Alex Kozora listed Doubs in his offensive wishlist for the Steelers in free agency. Specifically, Kozora highlighted Doubs’ route-running ability. That’s something that Mike McCarthy values in his wide receivers. So, keep an eye out for WR Romeo Doubs rumors as the Steelers near the opening of free agency next Wednesday.
