Liverpool earned a 3-1 victory over Wolves in the FA Cup fifth round.

Andy Robertson insisted he did not have a ‘point to prove’ after inspiring Liverpool’s FA Cup victory.

The Reds’ 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers moved them into the quarter-finals of the competition - and atoned for their 2-1 loss against Rob Edwards’ side in the Premier League.

Robertson opened the scoring in the 51st minute with a fine strike before he whipped in the cross to tee-up Mo Salah to double the lead two minutes later.

Robertson has been second-choice left-back to Milos Kerkez, signed for £40 million from Bournemouth last summer, for much of the 2025-26 season. But Robertson accepts his position in Arne Slot’s side.

The Liverpool vice-captain told BBC Sport: "I'm not sure if I have a point to prove in a Liverpool shirt. The fans know I give everything in a Liverpool shirt. When you get on the pitch you just want to enjoy it. It is what it is. Milos [Kerkez] is a fantastic left-back.

"He had an unbelievable season last season at Bournemouth. It took time to settle into a big club. The club has to move forward, the lads who have been here so long are not getting any younger. You have to accept it. I have had competition my whole career."

Robertson was magnanimous about his reduced role, having been a key player for Liverpool in his previous eight seasons. But Danny Murphy reckons that the Scotland international will be privately ‘fuming’ behind the scenes. Former Liverpool midfielder Murphy said: “I admire the way Andy Robertson spoke. Deep down he will be fuming because he deserves to play more. That performance should keep his place.”

Alan Shearer also reckons that Robertson will not be too pleased playing back-up. The Premier League’s all-time top scorer said: “I would get the frustration, although he didn’t show it in the interview; but you can bet your bottom dollar that he will be angry and he will be hurt because he will be feeling he should be playing.”
