Bucks’ Kyle Kuzma sends strong message on Doc Rivers after getting benched

Milwaukee Bucks forward Kyle Kuzma grabbed attention in Monday’s game against the Boston Celtics at Fiserv Forum, and it’s not for a good reason.

For the first time in his NBA career, Kuzma was benched for an entire game because of a coach’s decision. Kuzma was left on the bench by head coach Doc Rivers, as the Bucks suffered a 108-81 loss at the hands of Payton Pritchard and company, thus spoiling the first game back from injury of two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Kuzma speaks up after getting benched in Bucks-Celtics game

On Friday, Kuzma shared his thoughts on Rivers’ decision in the Celtics game.

“At the end of the day, Doc is the final arbiter, right? So, he can make decisions on whatever he wants and rightfully so, he’s the coach,” Kuzma said, per Eric Nehm of The Athletic.

“So, that’s not my job to worry about. My job is to come out and just be a professional. That’s who I am. That’s who my character is and play when my number is called.”

It’s probably the best way for Kuzma to approach what happened. The last thing the Bucks need at the moment is a public feud between a player and Rivers, and it does not seem Kuzma is holding any grudges about getting benched. It was not ideal for him, but he understands.

Kuzma was back in the rotation on Wednesday after the Boston game, as he scored 16 points on 7/8 shooting from the field with two rebounds and two assists in a 131-113 loss to the Atlanta Hawks at home.

Up next for Kuzma and the Bucks is a showdown against the Utah Jazz in Milwaukee this Saturday.
