Packers insider names 11-TD weapon as target with Luke Musgrave called a ‘lost cause’

The Green Bay Packers had one of the best tight ends during the 2025 NFL season in the form of Tucker Kraft. However, Kraft was not able to finish the season, having suffered a devastating season-ending injury during a Week 9 home game against the Carolina Panthers.

Green Bay certainly missed Kraft from that point forward. The Packers never came close to getting the same success at the tight end position for their offense the rest of the way.

Many expected Luka Musgrave to step up after Kraft went down, but from Week 10 down to the end of the regular season, he mustered just 164 receiving yards with zero touchdowns on 15 catches and 21 targets through nine games. It has been a disappointing run in the NFL thus far for Musgrave, who only has a touchdown to show in three years in the pros.

Will the Packers target NFC tight end in 2026 NFL free agency?

Matt Schneidman of The Athletic called Musgrave a “lost cause” and named possible tight end targets for Green Bay in the NFL free agency. One TE he named is Cade Otton of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Here’s what Schneidman wrote:

Cade Otton, 27, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3 years, $24 million): Otton is a solid all-around tight end who can contribute in all phases. He is a fine blocker and route runner who has decent hands and can be a safety valve on leaks to the flat. The best part of his game might be his pass protection. Otton is not a plus athlete, though. He lacks burst and speed, and there is nothing overly special about his game.

Otton, who will be 27 years old in April, has spent all his career so far in the NFL with the Buccaneers. In 63 games (58 starts) with Tampa Bay, the former Washington Huskies star has 2,018 receiving yardsa nd 11 touchdowns on 207 receptions and 300 targets.

Green Bay tight end Luke Musgrave (88) catches a pass during Green Bay Packers Family Night on Aug. 2, 2025, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.
