The Phoenix Suns have had to absorb a lot of information regarding Dillon Brooks lately. At first, he broke his hand. That injury required surgery, and he is expected to miss the next four-to-six weeks. His lack of availability hurts Phoenix’s chances of staying out of the play-in.

Just a few days later, Brooks was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The Suns are now having to figure out how to handle this situation, with him possibly being open to discipline once he’s healthy. They released a statement on the matter, saying they were in the process of gathering information.

On Friday night, a new piece of this saga was made available. Brooks’ arrest video was released to the public.

Suns Forward Dillon Brooks Has Arrest Video Released

The video of Brooks being arrested was released, and it showed why the officer decided to arrest him. According to the video, Brooks blew a 0.0 on a breathalyzer. However, his DUI arrest was related to the suspicion of being under the influence of marijuana.

In the video, Brooks had to explain that he had broken his hand to the officer while he was being handcuffed. Brooks told him that he had surgery on it. The officer wanted to make sure that he didn’t hurt that hand while he was placing the handcuffs on Brooks.

As far as the Suns go, the release of this video likely doesn’t change anything for them. They are still figuring out how to proceed once the legal process plays itself out. Since Brooks is out for a few weeks anyway, they can take their time through this process.

Phoenix Needs to Survive Without Dillon Brooks

The Suns sit seventh in the Western Conference standings. Without Brooks, their defensive identity takes a big hit. They have the 10th-best defense in the NBA largely because of what Brooks is able to provide on the perimeter. He is the most physical defender they have.

Devin Booker just returned from injury, so he is getting himself back to form. Now that he is back, he is going to be an even bigger part of the team. He, along with Jalen Green, is going to have to carry the team offensively. They might have to shift their identity for a few weeks until Brooks returns.

Phoenix is still good enough to make the playoffs once Brooks returns. If they remain the seventh or eighth seed in the West, they would only have to win one game to make the playoffs. That will be their focus for the next month while Brooks recovers from his injury and deals with his legal situation.

It’s unlikely the media will hear from Brooks anytime soon. When players get hurt, it’s very unlikely for them to do media sessions like healthy players at practice or before games. Brooks won’t have to make a public comment for a while.
