Nuggets’ Jamal Murray exits with left ankle injury against Knicks

The Nuggets waited four months to get their starting lineup healthy. On its first night back together, it didn’t last half of the game.

Jamal Murray was helped off the court during the second quarter of Denver’s game against the Knicks on Friday. The 29-year-old point guard sprained his left ankle, the team said, after stepping on Nikola Jokic’s foot while backpedaling on defense.

Murray limped to the locker room after he was helped off the court by teammates Peyton Watson and Jonas Valanciunas. He was officially designated as questionable to return after halftime.

Murray is averaging 25.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. He was named an NBA All-Star for the first time this season and was shooting 43.2% from 3-point range coming into Friday’s game. Aaron Gordon returned from a hamstring strain that had sidelined him for 17 games, while Cam Johnson also returned to the lineup after missing two contests with a minor ankle injury.
