Dominik Szoboszlai hailed as “best in the world” at pressing by Arne Slot

Dominik Szoboszlai has been comfortably Liverpool’s best player this season and Arne Slot has lauded his pressing abilities, saying he is unrivalled there.

Some wouldn’t have had Szoboszlai in the best XI at the start of the campaign after the signing of Florian Wirtz, and the influence of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.

Instead, the 25-year-old has made himself an indispensable figure for Liverpool, scoring 10 goals and bagging seven assists, as well as excelling in several positions.

Szoboszlai’s relentless energy is one of many key attributes in his game, and speaking to TNT Sports, Slot claimed that nobody in the world is a better presser.

“Dominik has a lot of qualities,” Slot said.

“He is an all-round player, an all-round midfielder, a modern midfielder in my opinion.

“Last season he was already very good – mainly off the ball, a bit on the ball – and I think this season he has improved his game on the ball.

“Off the ball he is top three, four or five in the world, and [he is] maybe the best in the world in terms of pressing.”

Is Dominik Szoboszlai Liverpool’s natural next captain?

Szoboszlai has developed into a world-class midfielder, and while his technical ability and work ethic stand out most, so does his leadership.

He is already Hungary’s captain at a relatively young age, and with Virgil van Dijk unlikely to be around for more than another couple of years, a replacement will be needed as skipper at Liverpool.

In Szoboszlai, the Merseysiders look to have a perfect candidate, considering he is already the leader of his country and is about to hit his prime years.

This is assuming Liverpool’s No. 8 stays at Anfield, of course, and tying him down to a contract extension beyond 2028 has to be considered priority business.

Szoboszlai is one of the poster boys of this next era at Liverpool after legends such as Alisson, Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah depart, alongside Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike.

He has been outstanding all season, in a campaign where so many have toiled, and he can become a future Reds legend.
