Ross Wilson has made Newcastle United top priority clear after 2028 deal agreed & Man City…

Tino Livramento’s contract at Newcastle United runs until 2028 with Manchester City understood to be interested in the England international.

Newcastle United want to tie Tino Livramento down to a new long-term deal at St James’ Park.

Livramento joined Newcastle from Southampton for an initial £31million in 2023 and has gone on to make 99 appearances for the club.

The 23-year-old was just one shy of a century when he suffered a hamstring injury in Newcastle’s FA Cup third round win over AFC Bournemouth back in January.

Tino Livramento injury update

Almost two months on, Newcastle return to FA Cup action in the fifth round against Manchester City on Saturday (8pm kick-off).

And Livramento, who has been the subject of some transfer interest from City, is closing in on a return.

“He’s getting there, let’s wait and see,” Howe said when asked if Livramento would return against Man City. “He hasn’t trained with us yet but we hope that he will very soon.

“He’s done a lot of work so there’s no question about his cardiovascular fitness. He’s been running for a long time so he’s got a lot of work behind him. It’s just that training time and involvement with us.

“But he’s been with all our coaches and done enough and he’s looked really good, so I think he’s there or thereabouts.”

Tino Livramento contract priority & Man City transfer problem

Shortly after his arrival as Newcastle’s new sporting director earlier in the season, Ross Wilson went on the record to state that he was looking to tie down Livramento to a new long-term contract as a priority.

Wilson also mentioned a new deal for Sven Botman as well, a deal that was agreed a matter of weeks later.

Speaking in December, Wilson said: “My first days were about analysing contracts – where are we, where are we strong, where are we weak, where have we got issues?

“It’s no secret at all that we would want to extend Tino’s contract, and we would want to extend Sven Botman’s contract too.

“Those discussions are ongoing. Some discussions are more difficult than others, but the desire would be to keep those players. Will they agree those contracts? At the moment, I think it’s too early to say.”

Yet three months on from those comments, Botman is tied down to a new deal, while all talk regarding a new deal for Livramento has gone quiet.

And with Saturday’s opponents, Manchester City, understood to be circling ahead of the summer. It’s a situation that is certain to develop one way or another.

When asked directly for the latest on new contract talks for Livramento, Howe simply said: “I have no update on that, I’m afraid.”

Should Newcastle be unable to agree a new deal with Livramento this summer, they may be forced to consider offers for the defender or risk losing him on a cut-price deal as his contract runs down.

But with fellow right-backs Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth out of contract in the summer as things stand, it’s a position high on Newcastle’s priority list when it comes to addressing ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
