Reports linking Arsenal with a potential sale of captain Martin Ødegaard have sparked a furious reaction from supporters on social media, with many fans questioning why the club would even consider parting with one of their most influential players.
Speculation emerged this week suggesting that Juventus are monitoring the Norway international and could attempt to make a move if ARSENAL were willing to negotiate. The reports quickly spread across fan forums and social platforms, triggering widespread backlash from sections of the Gunners fanbase.
Ødegaard has been one of Arsenal’s standout performers since joining permanently from Real Madrid in 2021. The attacking midfielder was appointed captain by manager Mikel Arteta in 2022 and has since played a key role in the club’s resurgence as Premier League title challengers.
For many supporters, the idea of selling their captain is difficult to comprehend.
“Why the hell would ARSENAL sell Ødegaard?” one supporter wrote on X. “He’s the heartbeat of this team and one of the best creative midfielders in Europe.”
Another fan posted: “You build around players like Ødegaard, you don’t sell them. If this happens it would make absolutely no sense.”
Others questioned whether the reports themselves were credible, with many pointing out the midfielder’s importance both on and off the pitch. Ødegaard is widely seen as one of the leaders of Arteta’s project and a central figure in the club’s tactical system.
The Norwegian international has consistently been among Arsenal’s most productive attacking players, contributing goals and assists while orchestrating much of the team’s forward play. Fans also highlighted his leadership qualities, arguing that losing the captain could disrupt the strong dressing-room culture Arteta has worked to establish in recent years.
“He’s our captain, our creator and one of the faces of the project,” another supporter wrote online. “Selling him would send the wrong message completely.”
Despite the online reaction, there has been no official indication that ARSENAL are planning to sell Ødegaard. The midfielder remains under a long-term contract and continues to be regarded as a key part of Arteta’s plans.
Nevertheless, the rumours have clearly struck a nerve among supporters. With the summer transfer window still months away, Arsenal fans will be hoping the speculation fades quickly — and that their captain remains firmly at the heart of the club’s future.
