‘Chosen one’ – Club return for Everton player after January failure

Sevilla are considering bringing Everton’s Nathan Patterson to La Liga in the summer.

That’s according to Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, who report the Everton player is one of two targets for Sevilla.

The Premier League side had shown keen interest in Sevilla’s Juanlu Sánchez in the winter market.

Two months ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Everton proposed €15m plus Patterson on loan for Juanlu. Both the 24-year-old Scotland international and Juanlu stayed where they were.

Vamos Mi Sevilla FC now points out the Everton player was an option in January, but the move failed because Juanlu didn’t end up leaving.

Sevilla haven’t forgotten Everton player

The right-back is still on the Andalusian club’s radar, and they are looking at him for next season.

Sevilla manager Matías Almeyda now has Juanlu and José Ángel Carmona as the two recognised right-backs at his disposal. Their sporting director, Antonio Cordón, is already planning to sacrifice the duo in the summer.

That’s because the Spanish club have an urgent need to improve their finances and the duo’s sales can help them in this regard.

Cordón’s plan is to sell these youngsters and look for ‘low-cost players’ and this is where Patterson comes into the picture.

Cordón’s plan to sign Toffees defender

The director has the Everton man and Getafe’s Juan Iglesias as the two targets in his list. The latter has a contract expiring in June and can be signed for free.

According to the report, the La Liga side have ‘practically agreed’ to sign Iglesias. The second name on Cordón’s list is Patterson, who is the ‘chosen player to complete Matías Almeyda’s right flank’.

Vamos Mi Sevilla FC claim the Spanish club are looking to sign the Toffees man on loan. The outlet state this allows them to sign the ‘player with international potential without exceeding their salary cap.’

Our take: Loan move unlikely

The fullback’s contract expires in 2027 and Transfermarkt now values him at €10m.

Therefore, it won’t make sense for David Moyes’ side to sanction a loan move, at least without a renewal. Sevilla love a loan, and that would be their initial go-to idea, but in this case it’s unlikely.

Patterson has been limited to 355 minutes from seven matches in all competitions this season. Due to this restricted game time, Everton could look to cash in from his sale in the summer.
