Jurgen Klopp’s name still carries huge weight in football.
That is especially true at Liverpool, where the German built one of the most successful eras in the club’s modern history.
Klopp spent nine years at Anfield between 2015 and 2024.
During that period he managed 491 matches and won 299 of them.
The trophies followed the performances.
Klopp won eight major honors with the club.
Those included the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Community Shield.
His Liverpool side also pushed the limits of consistency in the league.
They recorded three seasons with more than 90 points.
The club finished with 97 points in 2018/19, 99 points in the title-winning 2019/20 campaign, and 92 points in 2021/22.
Despite the success, Klopp shocked the football world in January 2024 when he announced he would step down.
He explained the decision clearly at the time.
“I am running out of energy… I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again.”
Klopp stayed true to that decision.
He completed the 2023/24 season before leaving the role in May.
Since then he has started a very different chapter in football.
Klopp became Red Bull’s Global Head of Soccer and the position places him in charge of the company’s football network.
That group includes clubs such as RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg, New York Red Bulls, RB Bragantino, Leeds United and Paris FC.
The role is strategic rather than hands-on. Klopp works on football development across the network instead of managing from the touchline.
That new role is the reason recent reports linking Klopp with Atletico Madrid have raised eyebrows.
The speculation came from Spanish journalist Pipi Estrada on El Chiringuito.
The claim was that Atletico’s majority shareholder, Apollo CEO Marc Rowan, wanted Klopp to lead a new era at the club because the German liked the “underdog” profile of Atletico.
But Klopp’s camp has now responded firmly.
Klopp’s long-time agent Marc Kosicke spoke to WinWinAllSports.
He dismissed the reports outright. Kosicke described the story as “stupid rumors.”
The message was clear. There are no negotiations taking place for Klopp to return to management in 2026.
Klopp left Anfield on his own terms.
He also moved into a role that offers a calmer life away from the weekly pressure of coaching.
For now, the man who reshaped Liverpool is focused on building football projects behind the scenes rather than stepping back into the dugout.
