David Moyes Everton signing hails masterstroke move as one of the transfers of the season

EXCLUSIVE: The form of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and the move from Goodison Park to Hill Dickinson Stadium come under the spotlight from former Everton striker Jermaine Beckford

After following up a match-winning assist at Newcastle United with a sixth goal of the campaign against Burnley, Everton’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been hailed as “one of the signings of the season.”

Blues boss David Moyes first earmarked the midfielder when he returned to Goodison Park in January 2025, but had to wait until last August to snap him up for £25million from Chelsea after he had helped the west London outfit to win the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup. While the Nottingham-born player netted a dozen times for Leicester City when they won the Championship title in 2023/24, he has now eclipsed his best total with a top flight side having netted five times for Chelsea last season, although all of those goals were against overseas teams.

With six goals and five assists for Everton so far, Dewsbury-Hall leads the team this term for goal involvements and another former Moyes signing, Jermaine Beckford is impressed with what he’s seen. He told the ECHO: “I genuinely think Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has been one of the signings of the season. He’s been absolutely fantastic.

“He had a spell when he was out injured, and you could see what he brings to the team through his absence. He picks the ball up, he likes to be very direct, he’s very strong and has got a good pace about him.

“He’s got a great eye for a pass and as we saw on Tuesday night, he knows where the back of the net is. I like his creativity and the way he picks the ball up on the half turn and tries to break the lines, whether it’s a pass or him driving forward in possession, trying to get it out to Iliman Ndiaye, and whoever else is on the other wing like Dwight McNeil.

“I think he’s been a breath of fresh air. If you look at losing the creativity of Jack Grealish through injury, having someone like Kiernan in the middle of the pitch or when he drifts out wide, has eased the burden of not have Jack around. I’m a huge admirer of his, I think he’s been fantastic.”

Beckford, who joined Everton from Leeds United in 2010 when his contract expired, loved turning out in the traditional atmospheres of Goodison Park and Elland Road, but he’s been blown away with what he’s seen so far from the Blues’ historic first season on the Mersey waterfront. Speaking via 7bet casino, he said: “As an arena, I think Hill Dickinson Stadium is phenomenal, it’s absolutely fantastic. They could do with a bit of help on the parking side of things, but as a stadium, it’s amazing.

“I love the view inside it and the sound, I love the acoustics, especially when the fans have got something to get behind and the boys on the pitch are giving them a performance to be proud of. The roar, the sound, there’s something special about it, it’s goosebump-esque.

“It’s not Goodison though is it? Goodison Park is historic for a number of reasons, it’s absolutely incredible.

“I was fortunate enough to have played there for Everton. To have witnessed it on the final day of it being the men’s team’s home ground and also seeing the first game of the new era at Hill Dickinson Stadium, it’s going to take a bit of time, like Arsenal, West Ham and Tottenham, it’s going to take a bit of time for the football to match the ground itself, but I think Everton are well on their way.”
