Chelsea are being linked with a consistent Premier League performer.
Chelsea could be in the market for a big time deal this summer as they look to take the step to being Premier League title contenders. The Blues are battling for a top four spot again this season, and back-to-back Champions League qualifications would be a good achievement.
But sooner or later, this Chelsea project is going to have to prove itself by taking the next step to being title contenders. Recent years have been spent signing young players with big potential, but Chelsea can’t constantly build for the future.
At least a couple of polished players are going to have to be signed this summer if Chelsea are to take that next step, and given what happened with Enzo Maresca, who was left very frustrated with the club’s recruitment, it’s likely Liam Rosenior has been promised at least a small pivot.
But according to Ben Jacobs, Chelsea could be in the market for a big-money attacking midfielder in Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.
“Chelsea want a ‘central versatile attacker in the summer. I don’t think an out and out left winger is on their radar because they pitched to Quenda to be a left winger,” he told Alex Goldberg on Twitch. “Morgan Rogers is the name I keep hearing.”
Rogers has been Villa’s star player, and it’s likely they would charge big money for him this summer, but a big time move is likely for him sooner or later. Aston Villa should qualify for the Champions League this season, but if Chelsea get in and they don’t, there could well be scope for a deal.
Rogers has eight goals and five assists in the Premier League so far this season, and he is a proven player in the Premier League. The question would be how Chelsea fit Rogers and Palmer into the same team, but it’s likely the former would play out wide.
