Jacob Ramsey was controversially sent off during the Magpies’ dramatic 2-1 win over Manchester United on Wednesday after he was shown a second yellow card for simulation.
Howe felt referee Peter Bankes made the wrong decision, and he wasn’t the only one, with several pundits voicing their surprise after the game. But because it was two yellows, United are unable to appeal the red card and therefore will be without Ramsey tonight as he serves a one-match ban.
It leaves Newcastle light on senior midfielders with only Joe Willock, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton available. However, Nick Woltemade could again come into the midfield conversation having played there in recent time.
The German missed the Man United through illness but is expected to return this evening.
