Andy Robertson's stunning strike for Liverpool against Wolves was the first that he has scored from outside the penalty area for the Reds.

The Scotland captain is not a regular source of goals for the Reds, but he broke the deadlock at Molineux in stunning fashion during Friday night's comfortable cup win. The Liverpool left-back collected the ball from Curtis Jones before taking a touch and lashing the ball past Sam Johnstone and into the back of the net.

The goal was Robertson's 13th at club level since making the move to Anfield in 2017 – and it was his first from outside the penalty area. Speaking about his goal in a post-game interview with the BBC, Robertson said: "Probably quite rare. It just opened up and thankfully I hit it clean.

"Most of them usually go over the bar during my time at Liverpool, so I'm glad I managed to get one in the net! Look, it set us on our way and then obviously to get a goal so quickly after it is pleasing."

Robertson's goal was Liverpool's first of the night, before Mohamed Salah and Jones also got in on the act.

The only blot on the evening was the late goal the Reds conceded when Hwang Hee-chan slotted the ball past Alisson.

Robertson was pleased with the team's performance up until that point.

"I thought we controlled the game quite well up until the 92nd minute when we lose a clean sheet, which is frustrating," Robertson said. "But cup competitions are all about getting through and we're delighted to get through now."

Robertson has not figured as much as he would've liked this season following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

His start on Friday was only his 14th of the season in all competitions, while Kerkez has lined up 30 times.

Asked whether he felt he had a point to prove against Wolves, Robertson responded: "I'm not sure I've got a point to prove in a Liverpool shirt.

"I think the fans know that I give everything every time I come on the pitch and I hope they believe that and I've done that for nine years now, so it's not really that. It's just when you get on the pitch, you just want to enjoy it.

"I love playing football, I love training with these lads, I love playing with them. When you get the opportunity to go on the pitch, I just want to make the most of it and I think I did that today."
