Geno Smith Gets in Bizarre Social Media Fight After Raiders Move

Former Las Vegas Raiders QB Geno Smith.

It may have ended up being the second-biggest story of the week for the Las Vegas Raiders, but the team did make the decision to cut ties with quarterback Geno Smith. They traded for him and gave him a two-year contract extension just a year ago, but his first season went so poorly, that it was already time to move on.

Smith seemed happy after the Raiders cut him, but his happiness quickly turned sour. The fast food chain Wendy’s decided to throw shade at the quarterback after he was released.

(Geno Smith) in case things don’t work out in free agency we’re looking for a Chief Tasting Officer…,” Wendy’s wrote on X.

At first, it seemed like it could be some layered marketing scheme, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Smith decided to clap back at Wendy’s and posted a screenshot from an article about the company’s declining sales.

Wendy’s didn’t respond to Smith, but the quarterback continued to take shots at the chain.

“Out here selling poison trying to get jokes off on twitter,” Smith wrote on X. “Society in shambles.”

Safe to say that Smith probably won’t be hitting up a Wendy’s drive-thru anytime soon.

Who’s Going to Sign Smith?

Smith has bigger things to worry about, as he’s about to be a free agent. He can’t risk going to another poor situation again like he did with the Raiders. He’s already 35, so he only has so many more years left of being able to play.

According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the New York Jets could be in on

“While the Jets do like Geno from what I have been told, that has to be a two-way street, and Geno Smith, from my understanding, has a lot of affinity for the Miami Dolphins. If Geno is given his perfect scenario of where he would play, he would prefer to play for the Dolphins,” Hughes said on “Jets Final Drive.”

“That is understandable. That is where he is from; it’s a place that he has always kind of wanted to get back to, but do the Dolphins have interest in him? Because Miami is also in on Malik Willis, does Geno want to be a backup quarterback? There is a chance that the Dolphins swoop in and take Geno Smith,” Hughes added.

Will Smith Be a Starter in 2026?

Fortunately for Smith, he should have a chance to be a starting quarterback this season. He led the league in interceptions last season, but the Raiders’ incompetence in 2025 should work in his favor.

He has proven that he can be an above average starting quarterback in the right situation. Now, it’s hard to see him being much better with a team like the Jets.

Going to the Indianapolis Colts or Minnesota Vikings would make more sense. It remains to be seen if either team is seriously interested in him, but it’s looking like he’ll be given a chance to start for a team in 2026. However, his leash will likely be a lot shorter than it was with the Raiders.
