Chelsea legend Ashley Cole believes Arsenal can win the quadruple this season. He believes that Mikel Arteta is the driving force behind their form, and nothing is impossible for them.
Speaking to Hayters TV, Cole said that the Gunners keep winning matches and said that the Carabao Cup final win over Manchester City will be key. He believes that getting their hands on one trophy will push them to win more and said:
"Why not? The players seem to have some sort of belief. The manager has a belief and slowly but surely they’re winning game after game and if they can continue that form nothing is impossible and they’ll have the feeling of getting the first one over the line. If they get the first win who knows what can happen. It breeds confidence winning a trophy."
Cole added that the fans and players would want them to win the Premier League over any other trophy this season. He said that the consistency shown in the league has been the key and said:
"I think so with the consistency that Arsenal have shown, only eight games left in the season and seven points clear, it’s Arsenal’s to lose. The way they’re finding that extra 5% or 2% in games to find a way to win it’s going to have to be an absolute capitulation from Arsenal to lose the league."
The Gunners are seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with eight matches left in the season, having played one match more than second-placed Manchester City.
Ashley Cole comments on Arsenal's style of play
Arsenal's style of play has been criticized by rival fans, pundits, and managers, but Ashley Cole claims that Mikel Arteta's side would not be bothered. He added that their focus will be on winning trophies and said:
"I’d want my team to play but ultimately it’s about winning and Mikel Arteta got challenged at the start of the season to break the curse. It’s 22 years since they last won it. To position themselves above Manchester City and Liverpool and they’ve done that so far.
"Ultimately at the end of the season if Arsénal’s name is on the title he’s done his job. ‘We’ve seen the quality of Mikel, his tactical understanding and he’s doing a great job but to be compared with Arsene Wenger now is a little bit too premature."
The Gunners are still alive in all four competitions, having beaten Masfield in the FA Cup today, March 7.
