Opinion: European qualification could see £97m green light from TFG at Everton

Everton could unlock an unprecedented summer transfer window if they are able to secure European qualification.

With nine games remaining, Everton sit in eighth place of the Premier League table.

David Moyes was delighted with Everton’s summer business last year, but there are still a number of areas that need both quality and quantity adding.

Is Moyes still underappreciated by Everton fans for the job he’s doing? 🤔

The additions have certainly propelled Everton up the table as The Friedkin Group have completely transformed the club in just over 12 months.

However, European qualification could elevate Everton’s spending to a new level.

Everton would benefit from European revenue

The Friedkins have provided Everton financial stability following their takeover back in December of 2024.

Everton News’ finance expert Adam Williams claimed Europa Conference League qualification could offer around £6m of revenue.

Qualifying for the Europa League could offer a much greater of a revenue stream for the club, though.

Give us your gut feeling… will Everton make it into Europe? 🌍

Although European qualification may not necessarily transform Everton’s finances, this will be the first summer of spending following a year of football and events at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton’s new stadium has transformed the finances, with the Blues finally able to spend without being overly concerned about breaching the regulations.

David Moyes would need quality players added at Everton

Everton’s record signing has remained since 2017, with Tyler Dibling coming close at around £40m last summer.

The Friedkins’ first summer transfer window has proven money does not always equal quality, with the likes of Dibling struggling to impress on Merseyside.

Moyes has been so impressed with Jack Grealish, with a decision still required on what lies next for his career.

A player of Grealish’s calibre could offer Everton with a lot of experience if they are able to secure European qualification.

However, more quality players like Grealish would be required.

Everton’s record spending spree should be beaten

Last summer marked Everton’s record summer transfer window with just under £97m spent.

The figure surpassed Everton’s previous record from 2020, where the Blues spent £77m under Farhad Moshiri.

Year Net Spend

2025 £96.9m

2020 £77.0m

2018 £53.5m

2017 £48.3m

The Friedkins gave Everton their financial backing in January, but the Blues settled for the loan signing of Tyrique George.

In theory, that should suggest that a considerable chunk of change is being put to one side ahead of the summer market.

Landing Grealish on loan was certainly a statement signing from the Friedkins last summer.

It must be caveated by remembering that Grealish was in need of a new club to revive his career after his Manchester City struggles.

European qualification could unlock Everton’s ability to compete for players currently at the top of their game.

A good example of this could be Harry Wilson from Fulham. Everton hold an interest in Wilson, but they are expected to face competition from Aston Villa.

As things stand, Villa are set to hold an advantage over the Blues as they look set to land a spot in one of the European competitions for next season.

By doing so themselves, Everton could close the gap on clubs like Villa when it comes to competing for players like this.

European qualification could also retain Everton’s stars

Financial improvements allowed Everton to keep some of their top players last summer.

Everton rejected interest in Jarrad Branthwaite from Manchester United, but interest is expected once again for the star players on Merseyside.

It remains an unanswered question as to whether no European football could see the likes of Iliman Ndiaye consider his future this summer.

There is a belief that Everton expect interest to arrive for Ndiaye on the back of another impressive season for the Blues.

The best possible way for Everton to handle any interest in their Senegal international is to offer their players the opportunity to play in Europe.
