Cleveland Browns get huge cap relief help from Denzel Ward

The NFL’s new league year is right around the corner. Teams are having to find ways to get themselves cap-compliant.

The Cleveland Browns are in a huge mess due to their cap situation. They recently were forced to restructure their trade-bust’s contract. They are now getting relief from an excellent team leader.

Ward, who was drafted by the Browns in 2018, has been an elite presence in the Cleveland secondary. He has also been an unquestioned leader in the locker room.

While the Browns won’t be in a position to make major free agent moves, the selfless restructure of Ward helps them have some options. Ward isn’t going anywhere and is a fan-favorite.

It also helps that Ward is only 28-years-old with plenty of good football ahead of him. This made him an easy candidate for Cleveland to offer a restructure.

The restructure will convert $2.5M in base salary to a signing bonus for Ward. The Browns get that immediate relief, and Ward gets that cash up front.

The Browns head into 2026 with a lot of question marks. How will they perform after losing Jim Schwartz? Who is QB1?

One thing is for certain: Ward is willing to step up for his team in any way possible.
