The Dolphins shared a message after the release of Alec Ingold

After back-to-back seasons of missing the postseason, the Miami Dolphins have entered a rebuild. That became evident once the team decided topart ways with All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill and Pro Bowl pass rusher Bradley Chubb.

Despite their lack of success over these past two seasons, the Dolphins did possess a top heavy roster with players on large contracts. Aside from Hill and Chubb, the team has begun shedding those contracts to create cap space ahead of the free agency period. Most recently, the team released All-Pro kicker Jason Sanders and Pro Bowl fullback Alec Ingold.

The Dolphins tried to agree on new contracts with each player which would have represented a salary reduction. After they failed to come to terms on a new deal, the Dolphins parted ways with the pair. Now, Miami has released a message following Alec Ingold’s release.

Miami Dolphins Thank Alec Ingold

The Dolphins posted a message after Ingold’s release on social media with the caption, “A leader on and off the field. Thank you, Alec.” The image on the post included Ingold’s accolades while a member of the Dolphins: four seasons, three-time team captain, two-time Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee, one-time Pro Bowl selection.

Ingold was signed by the Dolphins prior to the 2022 season after he was released by the Las Vegas Raiders following the 2021 season. He suffered a torn ACL in 2021, which prompted his release.

The former Dolphins fullback appeared in 66 games for the Dolphins over four years, and was an integral part of MIami’s rushing offense. After a strong first season with the Dolphins, Ingold signed a three-year, $12.2 million extension. Following his contract extension, he earned his lone Pro Bowl selection in the 2023 season, as he helped pave the way for Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane to lead one of the best rushing offenses in the NFL.

Alec Ingold’s Performance

Unfortunately, due to Miami’s salary cap situation, Ingold’s release is not one where the team is shedding a player due to declining performance.

ESPN analyst Ben Solak believed Ingold was deserving of a Pro Bowl selection this year, as he wrote, “Ingold has played 304 snaps this season and is a featured part of the Dolphins’ revitalized rushing attack. Without him, we’d never have the De’Von Achane career season we’re currently enjoying. Ricard, who missed the first six weeks of the season, has not had nearly the same boosting effect on the Ravens‘ rushing attack, which has been generally less effective than Miami’s unit. The decision here would be easy if not for the fact that they’re fullbacks, and there are literally zero stats to isolate their individual and intrinsic value.”

While not every offense in the NFL utilizes a fullback, the Dolphins could still go that route. With new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Miami will have a similar scheme that they had with former head coach Mike McDaniel. Regarding the use of the fullback and Alec Ingold, offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik had previously said,“Yeah, we have Alec (Ingold) on the roster, and I would love it if Alec was able to stay here. I think that’d be awesome. I think he’s a fantastic leader. I’ve used a fullback before. I think it’s powerful within the offense. I don’t think it’s required. I think you just need to make sure you have good players and Alec is a good player. So obviously having him here would be fantastic.”
