Bills' Josh Allen Gets Good News Before the Start of NFL Free Agency

The Buffalo Bills' offseason has been geared toward maximizing the Super Bowl window they have with quarterback Josh Allen still in his prime.

So when the team fired Sean McDermott - a head coach with an impressive resume that boasted a 98-50 record with eight playoff appearances, five division titles, and two AFC Championship Game appearances in nine seasons - it signaled a bit of desperation on Buffalo's part.

But after promoting offensive coordinator Joe Brady to replace McDermott, and trading for former 1,000-yard receiver DJ Moore, it's clear the Bills are all in on surrounding Allen with a better supporting cast in hopes of finally getting to the Super Bowl.

The Bills took another big step forward that goal on Saturday, re-signing a key piece of their offensive line and one of Allen's top protectors.

"Source: Bills and C Connor McGovern reached agreement on a four-year, $52 million deal that includes $32 million guaranteed. He will not get to free agency," ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote on X.

The move keeps four of Buffalo's five starting linemen around for next season. The Bills finished with the sixth-best offensive line in the NFL, according to the Pro Football Focus end-of-season rankings, and keeping that unit intact is integral's for Allen's success.

The 28-year-old McGovern was one of three Bills offensive linemen set to hit the market. Now, just offensive tackle Ryan Van Demark and guard David Edwards are the only O-linemen on expiring contracts.

McGovern, who made his first Pro Bowl in 2024, was one of Buffalo's top offensive linemen last season. He was the only one of the team's regular starting five - a group that also includes Edwards, left tackle Dio Dawkins, right guard O'Cyrus Torrence, and right tackle Spencer Brown - to not surrender a sack last year.

The 6-foot-5, 318-pound McGovern also allowed just 18 pressures, 15 hurries, and three QB hits while playing 1,166 offensive snaps, according to PFF.
