Referee Peter Bankes has explained why Wrexham's George Dobson was sent off in Saturday's FA Cup clash against Chelsea. The midfielder was initially shown a yellow card for a foul on Alejandro Garnacho.
The Championship side thought they had won the cup tie in the latter stages when Callum Doyle flicked Josh Windass' shot past Robert Sanchez. However, Josh Acheampong drew the Blues level four minutes later.
Dobson's red card then came in injury-time as he attempted to kill a Chelsea counter-attack. After being booked, VAR recommended that Bankes reviewed the incident on the on-field screen, before showing Dobson a straight red.
Announcing the decision to the stadium, Bankes said: "No. 15 catches his opponent high with intensity, final decision is a red card for serious foul play."
