The game went down to the wire and ended with a 116-112 victory for Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs.

To those tuned in, it was an exciting regular-season matchup between two hungry teams in early March. To Wembanyama, it was a shockingly emotional win.

Following the game, fans took to social media to react to Wembanyama’s emotional moment. While those moments have often become memes that are joked about for years to come (Hello, Pat Bev), Wembanyama landed a lot of support from basketball fans across Reddit and X.

“Love Wemby and how much he cares. He’s not too cool, which makes him unbelievably cool. Know what I mean?” Flooduction said on Reddit.

“Was just thinking that Wemby might save this league. Great to see a player actually give a s***. Speaks his mind to the media, isn’t shy about going at some of his rivals, and is showing real emotion after beating a lottery team in the regular season. He also came out hard at the All-Star game and forced others to match his energy,” Every_Ad_2921 added.

Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards credited Wembanyama for setting the tone in this year’s NBA All-Star Tournament.

As the game was often criticized for not being competitive and featuring a bunch of superstars who didn’t care to actually compete on the stage, Wembanyama inspired his peers to put on a different type of show this season. And it doesn’t just happen for the All-Star Game.

“If you are his teammates and see this why wouldn’t you run through a wall for him,” Nsfwpenguins added.

“That is the face of man who now actually believes this team can overcome any obstacle and win a title,” Conn3er said.

Wembanyama And The Spurs Are Thriving

The Spurs’ superstar checked in for just 22 minutes on Friday night.

During that time, he shot 11-21 from the field, hitting on 4-9 shots from three. The superstar big man accounted for 27 points. He logged a double-double with 10 rebounds, while also coming up with a steal and a blocked shot.

Throughout the 2025-2026 NBA season, Wembanyama has appeared in 49 games. Seeing the court for just under 30 minutes per game, he’s been just as dominant as last season.

The Spurs’ center is producing 23.8 points per game (50% FG, 34% 3PT), 11.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. For the third-straight season, Wembanyama is leading the league in blocks per game with 3.0.

Without a shocking health concern taking him off the court midway through the year, Wembanyama and the Spurs have been thriving. Holding a 46-17 record, the Spurs are second in the Western Conference. They trail the champs, the Oklahoma City Thunder, by 2.5 games.

The 2025-2026 NBA season is shaping up to be Wembanyama’s first crack at the NBA Playoffs.
