ATLANTA, GA. – Looking to stay undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play, Georgia State Women's Tennis took an early 1-0 lead over Coastal Carolina but was denied a chance to finish strong as rain rolled in over the GSU Clarkston Tennis Complex. The match was left unfinished and is unlikely to be resumed.
The Panthers fell behind early in tennis play, losing by a score of 6-1 on court two, but the Panthers' top line duo of and evened up the score with a 6-4 win on court one. The squads' third line pairs were as evenly matched as could be, but it was Georgia State's and taking a thrilling 7-6 victory on a tiebreaker to secure the match point.
Georgia State was off to a strong start in singles play, with sweeping her first set, 6-0, on court four, and Paredes taking a commanding lead with a 6-2 set victory. and each jumped out leads on courts two and three, respectively, but could not secure a set victory before playw as suspended due to rain.
The Panthers will seek clearer skies and an out of conference victory when they travel to Alabama A&M on Saturday, March 14.
