Trade rumors continue to swirl around Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett.

The Myles Garrett trade machine never stops churning, and one of the latest proposals might be the most fascinating yet.

Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon published a list of surprise NFL offseason trade candidates and Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter made the cut. The Cleveland Browns were among the top suitors and Garrett would be part of the deal. It would likely also require some draft picks from Philly.

“(Carter) is actually coming off a down year, but an otherwise-loaded defensive team could use his trajectory and still-low salary to command one hell of a return,” Gagnon wrote.

Carter, the No. 9 overall pick in 2023, is just 24 years old, a two-time Pro Bowler, and already has a Super Bowl ring from Philadelphia’s dominant win against Kansas City in Super Bowl LIX.

But he’s also one of the most polarizing players in the league. He was ejected before the first snap of the 2025 season opener for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Carter was limited to just 11 games due to injuries and a suspension. He notched 33 tackles, three sacks, and a 60.1 overall PFF grade last season. But the talent and upside has never been a question.

Carter will count just $6.9 million against the cap next season. He’s six years younger than Garrett and has shown the ability to wreck games from the interior when healthy.

Trading Myles Garrett Won’t Be Easy for Browns

Garrett signed a $160 million extension last March, and any trade requires his approval. There’s no indication he’s pushing for a move to Philadelphia — or anywhere else — this offseason, and the Browns aren’t shopping him. However, landing with the Eagles would give him a chance to play for a contender.

Then there’s the money. Trading Garrett would leave the Browns with a significant dead cap charge they can’t afford.

On Philadelphia’s end, the Eagles are reportedly focused on extending Carter, not shipping him out. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reported that the front office has been prioritizing extensions for both Carter and fellow DT Jordan Davis. Davis signed a lucrative extension on Saturday.

The Garrett-Monken Question Adds Another Layer

Making the situation even more intriguing is that Garrett and new head coach Todd Monken have not yet met in person.

“I haven’t had any conversations yet (with Monken),” Garrett said in a recent interview. “I’ll be going back in a couple of weeks, and I plan to hash all that out when I get there.”

NFL insider Benjamin Allbright reported that the Browns have been unable to get ahold of Garrett since the team hired Monken over former defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

New defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg echoed that sentiment at his introductory press conference, revealing he also hasn’t connected face-to-face with the NFL’s single-season sack record holder.

“We have not spoken face to face,” Rutenberg said. “Obviously, amazing amount of respect for him as a player and all the great things I’ve heard about him as a person.”

Garrett has made it clear that winning remains his top priority. It’s the same message that fueled his trade request last offseason before he ultimately signed the extension.

With Schwartz gone and an entirely new coaching staff in place, the question is whether the Browns can convince Garrett that Cleveland is headed in the right direction.
