The Dallas Cowboys have placed the second-round, $5.76 million tender on Brandon Aubrey, meaning that a rival NFL team could attempt to sign one of the most reliable kickers in the league.
It's been a busy offseason for the Cowboys, who have re-signed running back Javonte Williams, placed the franchise tag on wide receiver George Pickens, and now placed the second-round tender on Aubrey. Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb have also seen their contracts restructured to create more cap space.

The Cowboys failed to land a blockbuster trade for Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, who instead joined the Baltimore Ravens. While the Cowboys missed out on the star defensive end, they do have one of the best kickers, at least for now.

Aubrey, 30, signed a three-year, $2,695,000 contract with the Cowboys when joining the NFL in 2023, giving him an average annual salary of $898,333. Since then, he's made 112 of 127 field goals and converted 126 of 130 extra-point attempts.
His ability to kick from range has made him a standout, and his NFL-best is 65 yards. Aubrey has converted from the 70-yard range, and he is considered one of, if not the best, kickers in the NFL.
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is the highest-paid in the league, earning $6.4 million annually. Philadelphia Eagles kicker Jake Elliott is second on $6 million, but Aubrey is now third after receiving the second-round, $5.76 million tender.

The terms of the tender mean that Aubrey can sign an offer sheet with another NFL team, and the Cowboys can match it. If they don't, the Cowboys would get back a second-round pick.
Franchise owner Jerry Jones said recently that an offer has been presented to Aubrey, but the kicker appears to be holding out for a larger salary. "I think he's outstanding," Jones said. "Love his story, love the fact that the story is with the Cowboys.
"We feel good that what we are talking about is an appreciation of what he can do for us. That's a way of, not trying to negotiate with anything I might say here, but we've got a good offer on the table for him."

Aubrey's journey was inspiring, as he began playing soccer in college and briefly kicked in the USFL before the Cowboys took a chance on him. He has since become a reliable weapon, and the Cowboys often guarantee three points as soon as they pass the 50-yard line.

The Cowboys are determined to extend Aubrey, but neither party has reached an agreement on a new deal. Dallas is trying to create as much cap space as possible to build a championship roster, and Jones is known as a fierce negotiator.
Jones failed to extend star pass rusher Micah Parsons last season and ended up trading him to the Green Bay Packers. If Aubrey is allowed to walk, it could spark backlash among fans, but Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said negotiations have been ongoing for some time.
"We've been in talks with Aubrey even before the season started," Jones told reporters. "It's been a journey, but we haven't been able to get to a point where we can all agree. Haven't gotten done, but we'd love to get him done."
