'I think we're both sick of playing each other': Man City star speaks after beating Newcastle…

Newcastle United and Manchester City have grown “sick” of each other, admits John Stones.

Stones played as Manchester City beat Newcastle United 3-1 in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday evening.

It was the fifth meeting between the two sides this season. Newcastle managed to win one of them – a league game back in October – before losing the next four.

Convince me otherwise: Eddie Howe gave me my greatest day as a Newcastle fan but he has taken us as far as he can

He’ll always be a hero but everything comes to an end

Pep Guardiola’s side have now knocked the Magpies out of both domestic cup competitions and while the City boss was full of praise for the Toon on Saturday night, Stones made a telling admission.

He said (via Andy Kerr of beIN Sports): “We’ve played Newcastle 5 times now this season. I think we’re both sick of playing each other.”

Manchester City continue to bully Newcastle United

Newcastle want to be one of the best clubs in the world but they are continually made a mockery of by Manchester City.

The win at St James’ Park in November looked like the breaking of a chain but, sadly, normal service has since resumed.

City aren’t even at their imperious best anymore but they’ve still knocked Newcastle – generally a very fine cup team under Eddie Howe – out of both domestic tournaments with relative ease.

Will Newcastle United ever see the best of Sven Botman again or would you sell him?

Anyone of a Newcastle persuasion who watched that second half would not have been surprised.

City toyed with the Toon, passing the ball around at will and looking a cut above their hosts.

While it’s understandable that Stones would want a change of scenery, quite why City would wish to play anyone other than Newcastle should be up for debate.

Save for that win in November, they habitually make it easy for City, and rarely put up much of a fight other than a spirited few 30-minute spells here and there.

Newcastle have been the best opponents City could have asked for recently.
